Ulaanbaatar, August  2nd – WeGO participated in the 6th Northeast Asian Mayors’ Forum (NEAMF), engaging with cities from the Northeast Asia region to discuss critical urban issues under the theme of “Sustainable Development in Northeast Asian Cities: Promoting and Leveraging Public-Private Partnerships (PPPs).” This theme underscores the significance of collaboration in addressing urban challenges and transforming cities into smart, resilient urban centres.

During NEAMF 2024, WeGO engaged in a series of strategic discussions aimed at fostering collaboration and innovation in smart city development. Meetings were held with officials from Beijing, Dalian, Saint Petersburg, Ulan-Ude, Busan, and Boryeong to explore avenues for collaboration and knowledge exchange. Additionally, WeGO greeted members from Chengdu (East Asian Regional Office of WeGO), Seoul (President City), and Ulaanbaatar (one of the founding members of WeGO).

On the first day of NEAMF 2024, WeGO Secretary-General Jung Sook Park delivered opening remarks, highlighting the role of the PPP model that WeGO employs to develop smart city-related projects. She encouraged cities to participate in discussions and networking to foster collaborative efforts under the Human-Centred Smart Cities Concept. Secretary-General Park also promoted the Seoul Smart City Prize Ceremony, inviting cities to participate and celebrate diverse efforts in advancing smart city initiatives.

WeGO held a bilateral meeting with H.E. Nyambaatar Khishgee, the Governor of the Capital City and Mayor of Ulaanbaatar, focusing on collaborative strategies for smart city development. The Secretary-General emphasised that smart city concepts extend beyond technology, encompassing a culture of collaborative problem-solving. Mayor Khishgee was invited to participate in the Seoul Smart City Prize Ceremony and Seoul Smart Life Week in October, and to apply for the Seoul Smart City Prize next year. The Mayor gladly received the invitation, and looks forward to engaging more with WeGO to strengthen the partnership in the future.

During the forum, WeGO presented the Smart Public-Private Partnership model implemented with its members. WeGO also engaged with city officials from cities, including Chengdu, Dalian, Ulan-Ude, Saint Petersburg, other international organisations and institutions, emphasising the importance of partnerships and shared goals in urban development. Invitations were extended to high-level officials to attend the upcoming Seoul Smart City Prize Ceremony during Seoul Smart Life Week, aiming to bring together global leaders and experts in smart city development.
