WeGO and APDA step up a partnership to strengthen smart city cooperation in Japan

SEOUL, APRIL 26, 2023 – At the International Parliamentarians’ Conference on Population and Sustainable Development, which was held by APDA (the Asian Population and Development Association) toward the 2023 G7 Hiroshima Summit (GCPPD), WeGO and APDA signed a cooperation agreement to jointly promote the development of sustainable human-centered smart cities in Japan and South Korea.

The event was organized by the Asian Population and Development Association, the Asian Forum of Parliamentarians on Population and Development Japan, the Parliamentarians Federation for Population, and supported by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Japan, the United Nations Population Fund, and the Japan Trust Fund.

Under this agreement, WeGO and APDA are set to collaborate in various ways to exchange expertise on urban issues, and smart city development, and co-organize training programs, conferences, seminars, and workshops. The collaboration also includes strengthening the ties between local and regional governments from Japan and South Korea with the aim to enhance the visibility and impact of LRGs in multilateral processes anchored in Japan-Korea.

“Nowadays, smart city development is increasingly turning its attention to establishing the software or content of smart cities. The smart city is no longer a simple application of technology to solve urban issues. Smart city framework has become a culture in itself for the lives of citizens and we are looking forward to strengthening our cooperation with local and regional governments from Japan” – said WeGO Secretary General Ms. Jung Sook Park.

Similarly, WeGO’s Secretary General Jung Sook Park expressed her eagerness to push the initiative forward and establish the platform for JK practitioners to initiate partnerships in smart and sustainable development next year.
