SEADS – Sea Defence Solutions ltd

10 million tons of plastic each year reach the global oceans killing millions of fish, sea mammals and birds. 70-80% comes from rivers. This quantity is expected to quadruple by 2050. Oceans produce 50% of global oxygen and absorb 25% of global CO2. No life is possible without healthy oceans.

The SEADS Blue Barriers are almost 100% effective in collecting mixed plastic from rivers and don’t impact river life or boat navigation. SEADS not only stops all the floating plastic but also supports the city to sort and transform the collected waste into energy, virgin plastic and construction materials which create ongoing revenues and can repay the installation in as little as 5 years, protecting the environment and creating local job opportunities. The solution has been independently tested by the University of Florence and in the Lamone River in northern Italy and it is covered by a proprietary patent.

About 10 million tons of plastic reach the ocean each year, of which 70% to 80% come from rivers. Tackling this issue in the ocean has proven unsuccessful so far despite the copious resources invested. Blocking the plastic at source, on rivers, has a much higher potential to produce results, even in the short-term. Current solutions however have proven inefficient, risky in case of floods, unfit for large rivers, too costly for developing countries, and often an obstacle to navigation. SEADS has developed, tested and patented an effective solution to stop riverine plastic in any kind of river.

SEADS aims to offering the ideal solution for riverine plastic collection and upcycling, to be deployed at any river basin scale, contributing to solve the Ocean Plastic Pollution (OPP) problem. We offer not just the solution to collect plastic in river, but also the one to manage and recycle what we collect.

SEADS create a blueprint for transforming OPP into sustainable wealth for the local communities affected by the economic impact of marine and riverine plastic waste, ultimately contributing to reducing poverty worldwide.
